It’s pretty obvious that Colorado has the best spots for your engagement session. Between beautiful mountain views, wildflowers, and flowing rivers you seriously cannot beat it. But it can be really tough to decide where to have your session. Let me walk you through the best spots (in my opinion) and give pros and cons to each.
Chautauqua is a very popular spot here in Colorado for photos. It’s the perfect spot for a sunset session because the sun falls behind the foothills and leaves us with perfect, even lighting. Multiple different kinds of wildflowers can be found throughout the summer with large patches of yellow flowers during May, purple flowers June-July, and smaller amounts of yellow and purple flowers July-September. The cons of Chautauqua Park are pretty small but definitely important to mention: can be very busy on weekend nights, parking can be hard to find (you may have to park down the road and walk around 5 blocks).
Lookout Mountain is a great spot and not a far drive from Denver. It offers lots of different spots for photos with the main parking lot having a big lookout over the valley (a lookout at Lookout Mountain crazy right), and a side trail (pictured below) having a more secluded, forest vibe. If you’re lucky in the spring time you’ll have a chance of having a beautiful foggy night like the one pictured below. The only cons of Lookout Mountain are the intense winding roads, and limited parking.
Byron White is an amazing option for couples who want urban or city vibes without having to run around the whole city. Within three blocks we can get to the beautiful white columns of the courthouse, an old church with beautiful wooden doors, and amazing views of skyscrapers! There are very few cons of this location in my opinion but I must mention the fact that it can get a tad busy on the weekends (I’ve never ran into a time when there wasn’t a spot available on the steps), and the easiest parking right across the street costs $7.
If you’re looking for a unique outdoor location, the Paint Mines are perfect for you!! Pros include that it is a pretty private location, there are rarely more than 5 other people, there’s a variety of scenery including grass fields, the beautiful rocks, and even some views of windmills, and there is super easy parking! The few cons are that it’s definitely a drive from Denver (about 2 hours), and because of the rocks you will get covered in white dust! If you can get over the dust and the commute, the Paint Mines are an amazing option for a unique engagement session!
Mountain scenery, lake views, and up close encounters with wildlife. What more could you want? One thing I can promise you about taking your photos as Lily Lake is that you are guaranteed to see some type of wildlife; whether it be elk, deer or my favorite to see, muskrats! This trail head is just outside of Rocky Mountain National Park and offers all the same amazing benefits! Pros include, up close spots to have the lake in your photos, a huge overlook, and mountain views all around! It’s also a pretty spaced out trail so although there may be lots of people on the trail, we’ll still have lots of space for photos! The few cons are that parking may be a bit tricky during peak times on the weekends, and it is also about a 90 minute drive from Denver.
One of my all time favorite locations to take engagement photos is a small trail that starts just down the road from the Evergreen Lake House. With easy parking at both the Evergreen Golf Course and pull offs on the side of the road it’s one of the best places to have forest photos without having to hike! Pros of these spots include the variety of different vibes, you can be lake front at the lake house or take a walk and be right by the river surrounded by beautiful pine trees, the trail is a very private spot, and its beautiful year round! The con is that the lake house can be closed occasionally for weddings!
