Your engagement photo session doesn’t have to be just about standing in front of a camera and posing for photos. Some of the most meaningful engagement photos happen when couples choose to incorporate activities that genuinely reflect who they are and how they love to spend time together. Instead of focusing only on posed portraits, an engagement session can become a fun experience where you get to relax, be yourselves, and create and preserve memories together.

Activity Planning
One of my favorite ways to make an engagement session feel authentic is by planning an activity that means something to you as a couple. Think about the little things you love doing together in everyday life. Maybe you enjoy flying a kite at the park on a breezy afternoon, visiting your favorite coffee shop, or playing with your dog! Incorporating any activity that you love can make your photos feel even more personal. So, I want to share some ideas for a few different couples dynamics.

For The Couples Who Value Simplicity
Some couples love quieter, more intimate activities. Writing each other love notes during your session can be a really special moment to capture. Doing this is a great way to start your session intentionally, and help you feel more connected throughout the session. Imagine sitting together on a blanket while you exchange letters you’ve written for one another. Others might prefer something cozy and relaxed like drinking coffee at your favorite coffee shop, or bringing a thermos and mugs for a simple hot cocoa date outdoors.

For The Couples Who Love Being at Home
If you love spending time in the kitchen together, we can even build your session around cooking or baking. Making a meal together, baking cookies, or sharing a sweet treat can create natural moments that translate beautifully into photos. These little interactions often lead to genuine laughter and connection.

For The Active Couples
For couples who enjoy something a little more active, skateboarding around town, playing in the ocean or local lake, or even going for a playful bike ride can make your session feel dynamic and fun. Movement often helps couples loosen up and forget about the camera, which leads to more natural images.

A Fun Example
Olivia & Zack chose to bring their bikes to this session because riding bikes around their neighborhood or to their favorite restaurant for dinner is one of their favorite activities! Instead of simply walking around for photos, they spent part of their session riding bikes together. It made their session feel incredibly personal and captured a piece of their everyday life together.

Let’s Plan You & Your Lover A Date Night
At the end of the day, your engagement session should feel like you. Whether that’s playful, adventurous, cozy, or sentimental, we can always find an activity that helps tell your story in a genuine way. I would be happy to help you plan a fun date night for you and your partner, and capture some amazing photos during it! Feel free to reach out to me here, and let’s get to planning!
